Krajowa Rada Radiofonii i Telewizji (Polish National Broadcasting Council)
A body designed to monitor compliance with broadcasting laws. It
consists of nine members representing different social and political
circles. Four of them are appointed by the Chamber of Deputies, two -
by the Senate and three - by the president. The term in office of each
of the members is six years. Every two years one-third of the Council
is replaced.
Urzad Ochrony Konkurencji i Konsumentów (Office for Competition and Consumer Protection)
It is a governmental body responsible for assuring the observance of
Polish law in the area of consumer protection and competition. It
initiates legislation in the field of consumer protection, holds
extensive controlling powers in that area and represents Polish
interests in the EU institutions.
Self-regulation bodies
Rada Reklamy (Advertising Council)
The Advertising Council was created in 1997. It has been set up and funded by the advertising industry to apply code and rules regulating advertising content. It receives complaints for investigation, and in case the complaint is upheld, the advertiser will be requested to withdraw or amend the advertisement. It has been undergoing profound changes recently and it is expected that the Council will resume functioning in 2005.
