Conseil Superieur de L'Audiovisuel (CSA) (Audiovisual Council - French Broadcasting Authority)
The CSA has the two-fold role of guaranteeing and promoting
broadcasting freedom in France.
A large part of the CSA's work is devoted to verifying that radio and
television broadcasters are being responsible in their programming,
i.e. that their messages are not harmful to the audience and that they
respect the interests of children.
Self-regulation bodies
Bureau de Vérification de la Publicité (BVP) (French Advertising self-regulatory body)
BVP has been set up and funded by the advertising industry to apply code and rules regulating advertising content. It mainly works on providing copy advice for advertising in any media, and pre-clearing all TV advertising. Should BVP receive complaints for investigation, and in case the complaint is upheld, the advertiser will be requested to withdraw or amend the advertisement.
BVP is a member of EASA (European Advertising Standards Alliance).
